Well done to our Horticultural Trainees

September 11, 2014

Douneside Trainee Presentation 2014

Our four horticultural trainees, Liam Busby, Georgiana Goss, Abigail Peppiatt and Hannah Streeter all completed their one-year placement within the MacRobert Trust Gardens with flying colours.  They were presented with The MacRobert Trust Certificate on their graduation on 29th August by Air Commodore Bob Joseph, Chief Executive and Administrator.  Training Gardeners Willie Philip, Roddy Beagrie and Stuart Pittendreigh are pictured with the departing trainees (left to right:  Georgiana, Willie, Liam, Roddy, Abigail, Stuart and Hannah)

During their placement, they undertook training and assessment and they all leave with the RHS Certificate Level 2 in Practical Horticulture as well as certificates in pesticide application and chainsaw use and, of course, a year of work experience, guidance, craft skills development and knowledge accumulation.

Liam has secured a one-year placement as a trainee gardener at Osborne House, Isle of Wight, an English Heritage property and famously Queen Victoria’s ‘Royal Seaside Palace’ where she lived with Prince Albert and their nine children.  Georgiana has a two-year placement at Threave Gardens, the National Trust for Scotland gardens in Dumfries-shire.  Abigail will join a team of 16 gardeners in a full-time position at Heckfield Place; this is a 35-acre 18th century Georgian estate in Hampshire.   Finally Hannah has accepted a three-year training placement with the Professional Gardeners’ Guild who have a number of gardens.  She will be based at Savill Garden, Windsor Park for her first year.

Stephen McCallum, Head of Gardens at The Trust is very proud of these individuals and wish Liam, Georgiana, Abigail and Hannah continued success in their career progression as professional horticulturists.  He added that they would be excellent ambassadors for the MacRobert Trust Horticultural Training Scheme.  Everyone at the Trust wishes them the very best of luck.

Four new candidates have been selected and will take their place mid-September.
