Douneside House
Originally the home of the MacRobert family, Douneside House is now owned and run by The MacRobert Trust as a country house hotel. Douneside House is set within 17 acres of beautifully tended gardens with panoramic views of the Howe O’ Cromar and surrounded by the spectacular setting of Royal Deeside. A popular destination for leisure breaks, Douneside House was the winner of Visit Scotland’s Thistle Award for “Best Hotel Experience” in 2022. The on-site health club is available for hotel guests, as well as offering local residents access to gym and fitness activities. It is also the home of the Douneside Military Club, which offers significant discounts to serving and retired members of the armed forces throughout the year.
Set within the grounds of the The MacRobert Trust estate, the main House features 13 beautiful guest rooms. Each room has a classic-contemporary style, whilst retaining important elements of Douneside’s original character through the careful placement of individual pieces of antique furniture and precious artwork. Within the grounds of Douneside, there are a selection of dog friendly holiday cottages and apartments, with lots of activities for all the family on-site. Two award winning restaurants serve up delicious meals using lots of locally sourced produce, including a variety of fruit and vegetables from Douneside’s own extensive kitchen garden. The on-site health club features a fully equipped gymnasium, swimming pool, spa and steam room. Within the grounds, there is a tennis court, putting green, and croquet.
The grounds around Douneside House offer a wonderful variety of walking trails and hikes, with access direct from the Royal Horticulture Society accredited partner gardens. Or guests can explore the delightful local village of Tarland, which is a short 15 minute walk from Douneside.
Bookings can be made throughout the year via the Douneside House website. The House is also used as a wedding or exclusive use venue, and to host conferences or special events. Special rates are available for charitable organisations looking for a meeting or function venue. For enquiries please contact manager@dounesidehouse.co.uk
Although Douneside House is established as a trading subsidiary of The MacRobert Trust, all profits earned by Douneside House are gifted back to The MacRobert Trust, in support of the Trust’s charitable objectives.
Military Guests
The MacRobert Trust has a proud, and long-standing connection with the armed forces. To continue this tradition, the Douneside Military Club was established in 2020. Eligible military guests are invited to join the Douneside Military Club, which offers significant discounts at Douneside House throughout the year, along-with other membership benefits. These discounts and benefits are exclusively available to Douneside Military Club members.
A Military Club charity dinner takes place annually in November at Douneside House and is hosted by The MacRobert Trust. The inaugural dinner took place in November 2022, with the evening’s charity partner being the RAF Benevolent Fund. A fantastic £5,000 was raised by military club members via ticket sales and fundraising on the evening. The MacRobert Trust matched the amount raised so a total of £10,000 was donated to the RAF Benevolent Fund. Military club members who are interested in attended the next Military Club charity dinner should email manager@dounesidehouse.co.uk to enquire about tickets.
